Abiah Shaffer, Technical Account Specialist

Abiah Shaffer lower res

Where are you from?

I grew up in Denver, CO and completed high school in Fort Collins, CO.

What’s your career background?

I’ve worked in Geospatial Technology since 2006. I started as a GIS technician in the defense industry. From there I moved into GIS for environmental consulting. Eventually I moved into the business side of the industry when I accepted a job in Germany for a Geospatial Satellite company. At that point I became interested in remote sensing. I returned to the States and accepted a job as a Technical Account Manager for a company that specialized in enterprise geospatial data and information management solutions, namely in the cloud. Next, I took a brief intermission from the working world to complete a Master’s degree in Applied Geospatial Science and to perform some volunteer work in GIS. Eventually I landed right side up at Pro-West!

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be an equine veterinarian. I was really serious about it until I realized that blood makes me faint!

What’s your favorite part of your job?

The people! I love developing genuine relationships with people and learning what I can from them!

What are your hobbies/passions?

My first passion is playing the fiddle! I started playing Celtic fiddle in my late twenties and I’m hooked! I also enjoy cooking, yoga and running (sometimes).

Best job/worst job (not including your current one).

The best job ever was going back to school to get my M.S. degree! The abundance of free time and vacation made me feel like a kid again!

Last book you read?

The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore.

5 things you like:

Music, coffee, well made shoes, bacon, and vacation!

3 things you dislike:

Tomatoes, zucchini, and mean people!
