Do words like “leadership” and “vision” scare you? If so, this session is for you. Many GIS professionals didn’t set out to become leaders but, thanks to the rising profile of GIS as a business-critical tool, we find ourselves in this position. From setting a vision for GIS to creating data that – directly or indirectly – affects every decision that is made within the organization, GIS staff are providing skills far beyond making maps or pushing out applications. Learn WHY you are a leader, what you need to do if you feel you’re not being seen as a leader, and how you can shape your role in a way that works for both you and your organization.

Learning objectives:

  • Recognize and develop GIS leadership skills
  • Confidently manage your organization’s GIS and share expertise
  • Learn how to gain buy-in from others who may not recognize the value of GIS and your ability to generate value for the organization through GIS.
